The third annual Auburn Sprint Triathlon is a great event for first timers or others who want to test their time trial abilities on a tough and scenic course. The race will be held in conjunction with the World's Toughest Half, Auburn Int'l and Long Course Duathlon events, starting one hour after than the Half and 30 minutes after the International Tri.

500M Swim

You will swim in Folsom Lake at Rattlesnake Bar State Park, 6 miles downhill from the Auburn Railhead Park finish line. Rattlesnake Bar is at the very rear of Folsom Lake (furthest from the dam), where the American River feeds into the lake. Water temp on race day has ranged from 66-73 degrees the past five years. You will swim in a small bay surrounded by steep canyon walls and natural beauty. The steep inverted triangle course is entirely visible from the start line - very simple two left turn buoys and back home.

8 Mile (13K) BIKE

Enjoy extremely quiet roads (no signal lights) and a very tough, very beautiful course. You will climb a solid 1,000' from Rattlesnake Bar park (el. 430') to Auburn (el. 1,430) at mile 6, then roll through some ups and downs along the edge of the canyon to the finish line at 1,300'. (Follow the line on the maps for the other courses and notice they pass by the finish line at mile 8...you're done!

3.1 Mile (5K) RUN

The 3.1-mile run is a scenic and challenging route throught the Auburn State Park and Auburn canyon-edge neighborhoods. Enjoy the tranquility of a course entirely closed to auto traffic and affording stunning canyon views at seemingly every turn.

The out-and-back course consists of a gradual downhill for 1 mile, mostly flat for 1 mile (5-mile to the turnaround and .5-mile back). Then a gradual climb of 1 mile to the finish line at Railhead Park. The route is on paved roads on the edge of the American River Canyon with spectacular views of the river below most of the way. AID is available at mile .75 outbound and 2.1 homebound.
