5K Run Course Description

The 5-kilometer (6.2-mile) run course is in the State Park, canyon edge neighborhoods and on the new Skyridge School Fitness Trail. The route is almost entirely closed to autos (only 1/2 mi of open road and very minimal traffic). This is a moderately hilly, challenging and incredibly scenic run course.

From Railhead Park (el. 1'300), you will exit T2 bike racks and proceed across the adjacent soccer field to exit the park and pass underneath the Pacific Ave bridge and enter Auburn State Park. You will quickly turn right onto the paved access road you took on the bike course, then quickly veer off the paved road onto a single track road slanting up the hill towards the water canal trail. Proceed on water canal trail to Mile 1, then first Maidu Dr crossing. Cross Maidu and return to canal with a short descent. Continue on windy canal trail to Maidu Dr crossing #2 - Mile 1.5 Aid Station.

Turn Right on Maidu Dr and begin a significant climb. Proceed about 300 meters to turnaround on Maidu Dr. Return downhill, pass by the water canal and continue straight on Maidu Dr. Continue straight (mirroring the bike course now) and enter the giant green gate into the Auburn State Park (Maidu Dr. banks 90 degrees left...depart Maidu and go straight). Reach Mile 2 just inside park gate. Proceed downhill on very wide state park road, then eventually begin gradual uphill climb back to Railhead Park. Continue to the end of the wide paved road and pass under the Pacific Ave tunnel. Reach Railhead Park and cross near field, then circle around the pond, the run across and around T2 field to the finish line.
