The fourth annual Damage Control Master Formula Auburn International Triathlon will start 30 minutes after the World's Toughest Half. You will swim a 1.5k one-loop course, then bicycle for 16 miles on the identical World's Toughest Half route, then 8 miles return to T2, then run a beautiful 10k course in the Auburn State Park.

Damage Control Master Formula is the premier comprehensive multivitamin/mineral/antioxidant/anti-stress supplement in the world. This product will give you the protection you need to balance hard training and a busy, stress lifestyle without breaking down.

FREE Download: Training and Racing Duathlons. Endurance legend and healthy lifestyle guru Mark Sisson's classic is the most sensible and focused work ever produced to help you prepare and compete effectively in multisport. The book is in pdf form at his Damage Control Master Formula web site. Also please visit MarksDailyApple.com for daily health and fitness tips, including how you can mitigate the unhealthy aspects of endurance training. Stay tuned for Mark's long-awaited healthy lifestyle book, The Primal Blueprint.

1.5K SWIM

You will swim 1.5 Kilometers (.9 mile) in Folsom Lake at Rattlesnake Bar State Park, six miles downhill from the Auburn Railhead Park finish line. Rattlesnake Bar is at the very rear of Folsom Lake (furthest from the dam), where the American River feeds into the lake.

Water temp in 2009 was 73 degrees (five year range on race day: 66-73). You will swim a diamond shaped course in a mini bay (most of route visible from the start line), channel of water surrounded by steep canyon walls and natural beauty.

Click here for complete swim course details.

40K BIKE

Enjoy extremely quiet roads and a tough, beautiful 40 Kilometer (well, actually 37k...) course. The first six miles are entirely uphill Folsom Lake (el. 466') to Auburn (el. 1,300') , almost all at a mild grade, but with one section of steep switchbacks lasting one mile.

When you reach mile 6 at Maidu Drive in the Auburn neighborhoods, you will enjoy four miles of minimal elevation change, then a 1.5 mile climb to the top of Auburn. From there, you will follow freeway frontage roads with minimal elevation change to the turnaround at mile 16. On the return home, you lose ~500' in elevation, broken up by the notorious "LeMond Walked" climb of .4 miles at 12% grade at mile 19.

This is a safe course taking place mostly on rural roads with minimal traffic and only four signal lights. Less experienced riders can feel comfortable that despite the hilly terrain, there are no dangerous descents or sketchy cornering presenting a danger. Please be prepared with proper gearing and fitness to climb steeply on Shirland Tract Rd from mile 3.5 to 4.5.

10k RUN

The 10k run course is a scenic and challenging route throught the Auburn State Park and Auburn canyon-edge neighborhoods. Enjoy the tranquility of a course almost entirely closed to auto traffic (just 1 mi of virtually deserted public roads) and affording stunning canyon views at seemingly every turn.

The course consists of flat shaded single track and canal trail (mile 0-1.25), .5 of 150' climb (mile 1.25-1.75), .9 of minimal elevation change on Skyridge neighborhood roads and school fitness trail, 1.2 miles of steep&moderate descent on Maidu Dr and Dam construction road, 1 mile of minimal elevation change (mile 4-5), 1 mile of moderate climb (5-6) and .2 mile of flat to the Railhead Park finish line.

Click here for complete run course details, including written description, one of the coolest maps of all time and an elevation profile.
