Auburn is known (by official City Council proclamation) as the "Endurance Capital of the World'. The community plays host to the world-famous Western States 100-mile endurance run, the Tevis Cup 100-mile endurance horse ride and the Auburn Triathlon. Visit the web site for details.

Rocklin Park is located on Interstate-80 at Rocklin Rd exit and is actually closer to the swim start than Auburn lodging. Auburn Holiday Inn - 120 Grass Valley Hwy (49&80 right at offramp). Enclosed building adjacent to Interstate-80 with a beautiful courtyard with swimming pool and jacuzzi, a fitness center and a Marie Callendar's restaurant attached (they offer room service). This hotel has been recently renovated with first class accoutrements, flat screen TV's, new mattresses, granite counters, refridgerators, and room service!

Directions: Exit I-80 west or east at Hwy 49. From eastbound 80, go Left, cross under freeway. (From westbound 80 you go straight off exit, across 49, and into the In 'N Out Burger and Hotel drive). Turn into In 'N Out Burger/Holiday Inn parking lot immediately adjacent to the North side of the freeway. Auburn Comfort Inn & Suites - 1875 Auburn Ravine Rd (West on Foresthill Rd I-80 exit). Take the Foresthill Rd exit off I-80, Left over freeway. (From East turn right off exit) and continue straight over the freeway onto Auburn Ravine Rd. Comfort Inn is 200 meters past the freeway on the right as you descend the hill. Swimming pool, spa, non-smoking rooms, cable TV.

Foothills Motel - 13431 Bowman Rd (I-80 Foresthill Exit adjacent to Super 8). Call 530-885-8444 and mention Auburn Triathlon for a special rate of $60. From west take I-80 to Foresthill Rd exit, turn L off exit crossing over freeway, then quick R on Bowman Rd freeway frontage Rd. From east take I-80 to Foresthill Rd exit, R off ramp, immediate R on Bowman Rd. Notice Foothills Motel on a hilltop on L side of road. Pet-friendly (in smoking rooms) motel.

Powers Mansion Inn - 530-885-1166. An elegant bed and breakfast in heart of downtown Auburn. Rates from $169-$299 with discounts TBA for triathletes. Walking distance to great dining like Ninja Sushi. 164 Cleveland Ave, Auburn, 95603.

Awful Annies – 530-888-9857. 160 Sacramento St in Old Town Auburn. Incredible breakfast spot in Old Town Auburn with over 100 choices of nice delicious and large size meals. The place to go on Sunday morning along with Latitudes 10am brunch.

Bootlegger's - 530-889-2229. Upscale continental cuisine, right off I-80 in Old Town Auburn. From motels, exit I-80 westbound at Nevada St and turn Right for a 270 degree turn back over freeway bridge. Turn Right on Maple St right below giant courthouse, veer Left as you proceed down the hill and you will dump right into old town at the historic fire station. Bootleggers is right behind that fire station.

Ikeda's Burger Bar and Orchard Market – 530-885-4243. They have a variety of healthy, creative quick meals like Teriyaki chicken or tofu rice bowls, veggie and tofu burgers. Also enjoy their fresh fruit&vegetables, delicious salsas, sauces, homemade cookies and pies and much more! Ikedas is adjacent to I-80 on the Lincoln Way freeway frontage Rd (mile 53 on bike course). From motels or from I-80, turn Left on Lincoln Way from Foresthill Rd intersection (Raley's, etc). Proceed on Lincoln Way past Raleys and motels to Sylvan stop sign and notice Ikeda's building right there.

Latitudes - 530-885-9535. Delicious, home cooked healthy food by owners Pat and Pete. Monthly specials from all over the planet. Right across from Courthouse above Old Town.. From motels exit I-80 westbound at Nevada St and turn Right for a 270 degree turn back over freeway bridge. Quick left at stop sign (Maple St) directly below giant courthouse. Park quickly after that Left turn as you notice Latitudes on the left side (across from courthouse) in large white Victorian house.

Luigi's - 530-885-8801. Excellent Italian food downtown on Lincoln Way near Elm St and I-80. Totally packed on race weekend so plan ahead! From Railhead, turn Right out lot, R on Sacramento St, R on Auburn-Folsom, R on High St, R on Lincoln Way (downtown at the Clock Tower). When you start heading uphill past the tightly packed shops, you will notice a large parking lot near the top of the hill with a post office on the edge. Turn into parking lot for Luigis. Also checkout Joe Caribe--Carribbean fare--in the same lot. From motels, exit I-80 westbound at Elm Ave. From wraparound exit you will turn R and cross back over I-80. Go straight through the signal lite at High St/Hwy 49 and then veer Right onto Harrison Ave (by train hobby shop). Turn left into large parking lot (Liquor Outlet is the prominent sign) and park for Luigi's.

Maria's Mexican Tacos – 530-823-8540. Healthy, delicious Mexican food made authentically by owner Maria Moreno and her family. On Bowman Rd next to the bowling alley just east of Foresthill Rd I-80 exit. Walking distance from Super 8 and Comfort Inn. From motels proceed east on Bowman Rd (Freeway frontage Rd) past Comfort Inn and Super 8 (closer to mountains). Notice bowling alley signs set back from frontage road and Maria’s is a free standing building also setback from Bowman Rd, adjacent to bowling alley. Luther Rd is TOO FAR.

Ninja Sushi - 530-823-1252. Japanese entrees and sushi bar in downtown Auburn next to Luigis. From Railhead turn Right out lot, R on Sacramento, R on Auburn-Folsom, R on High, R on Lincoln Way (downtown at the Clock Tower). When you start heading uphill past the tightly packed shops, you will notice Miya Sushi on the left side. From motels, exit I-80 westbound at Elm Ave. From wraparound exit you will turn R and cross back over I-80. Go straight through the signal lite at High St/Hwy 49 and then veer Right onto Harrison Ave (by train hobby shop). Proceed to Lincoln Way and turn Right. Miya Sushi is immediately on your right before Cleveland St and the tightly packed shops.

Old Town Pizza - 530-888-7600 Off I-80 at Maple St Old Town Auburnexit. Nice atmosphere, tasty thick crust. From motels, exit I-80 westbound at Nevada St and turn Right for a 270 degree turn back over freeway bridge. Turn Right on Maple St right below giant courthouse, veer Left as you proceed down the hill and you will dump right into old town at the historic fire station. Turn Left, pass thru center town square (where the movie Phenomenon was filmed with Johnny Travolta) and then notice Old Town Pizza below the awesome breakfast spot Awful Annies.

Pacha Mamas - 530-823-0909. Healthy, organic vegetarian restaurant with exotic hand-made wraps and smoothies - definitely the spot for an adventurous, health conscious eater. Located in downtown Auburn inside the Gold Country Mall, near the Clock tower at the junction of High St and Lincoln Way. 884 Lincoln Way.

Tsuda's Old Town Eatery/New York Style Deli - 530-823-2233. Beautiful renovated Gold Rush building with premium "California fresh" dishes. This is a great meeting spot right off I-80 Maple St. exit in Old Town Auburn. Call and order To Go for the drive home, or ask for a delivery to your hotel room if you are really tired after a tough triathlon!

Auburn Bike Shops

Victory Velo is located in downtown Auburn on Lincoln Way, just east of the Clock Tower town square. 530-885-3986. From I-80, exit Hwy 49 and head South. At the T-intersection of City Hall, turn Left. Proceed on Lincoln Way and merge onto High St by veering left. Reach the clock tower town center and veer right and uphill past the clock tower. Proceed ~200m and notice Victory Velo on your right. Auburn Running Company is a couple doors down for your running needs too. Owner Dan Tebbs provides his personal touch for your new bike, a custom fitting or questions about any products. Victory Velo will also accept and build bikes shipped to them to ease your air travel hassles. Call for details.

Cambria Bicycle Emporium has a large facility on Highway 49 a half-mile north of Interstate-80. 530-823-2900. Exit from I-80 onto Hwy 49 North, go 1/2 mile and uphill to Palm Ave signal (notice shop on left before Palm). Left on Palm and immediate left onto frontage road, backtrack 100 meters to bike shop. Owners Bill and Michelle Marengo provide on course biike support every year and are extremely busy! Why not pay a visit to the shop in advance to get tuned up to ensure a smooth race day?!

Auburn Bike Works - 350 Grass Valley Highway: 530-885-3861. Exit I-80 at Hwy 49, go North 1/4 mile (pass Holiday Inn, In&Out Burger). Turn R on Walsh St then quick L onto Hwy 49 Frontage road. The is before the large intersection of Hwy 49 and Elm (Shell Station).

MAKE TRAVEL EASY: These shops will accept your bike shipment, assemble and make your bike race ready and ship your bike back home. Call to inquire.


Rental Cars

Sacramento International Airport has numerous major rental car companies on the premises, just reserve with your chosen company in advance and take the rental car shuttle at the clearly-marked curbside bus stop.

Auburn Rental Car can provide all sizes or autos for very reasonable rates, including mini-van. Call (530) 885-2400 for details. Auburn Rental Car is located on Hwy 49, 1/2 mile north of I-80 and before the Palm Ave signal light.
