Aid and Support

BIKE

World's Toughest Half and Auburn Duathlon athletes will enjoy four aid stations on the 56-mile bike route. Bike aid stations will feature disposable bottles of sport top 28oz water and Cytomax energy drink. We will also have Clif Shot energy gel. There will be four aid stations on the bike:

  • Mile 13.6 at top of a short climb just beyond Bell Rd
  • Mile 21.3 at I-80 and W. Paoli Rd outbound
  • Mile 36.8 at I-80 and W. Paoli Rd homebound
  • Mile 50.4 at the top of "LeMond walked" climb before Bell Rd

No bike aid for International 40k racers! 40k riders will pass by the first/ last aid station of the 56-mile route. We expect you to carry your own water and fuel for the 40k course. While it's impossible to prevent you from grabbing a water bottle at the aid station, we ask you to respect your fellow athletes in the long course and refrain from taking aid earmarked for this event. If you are at mile 20 of the International course, in distress and really need some aid, please take some by all means as we will naturally have some extra for this eventuality.

RUN

There will be four aid stations on the International Tri 10k course as follows:

  • Mile 0 - Transition Area (plastic bottles)
  • Mile 1.5 - Water Canal at Maidu Dr out
  • Mile 3 - Water Canal at Maidu Dr return
  • Mile 4 - Coffer Dam crossing out
  • Mile 5 - Coffer Dam crossing return

There will be eight aid stations on the World's Toughest Half and Int'l Duathlon 13.1 mile run course as follows:

  • Mile 0 - Transition Area (plastic bottles)
  • Mile 1.5 - Water Canal at Maidu Dr out
  • Mile 3 - Water Canal at Maidu Dr return
  • Mile 4 - Coffer Dam crossing out
  • Mile 5 - Coffer Dam crossing return
  • Mile 6.2 - Auburn Overlook finish line
  • Mile 8.2 - Robie Point fire road out
  • Mile 10.5 - Robie Point fire road return
  • Mile 12 - Dam Wall (water bottles)

Run aid stations will feature beverages of water and Cytomax energy drink. Caloric needs will be met with Clif Shot energy gel, assorted sweets and salty snacks.

Other items available at each aid station: First aid kit, vaseline, toilet paper, sunscreen, salt pills. Port a Potty's will be available at mile 0, 2.25 (Skyridge Fitness Trail @ baseball field) and 6.2. There is a bathroom at mile 30 on the bike course at Bear River Campground as well.

If you have a special request or suggestion for aid station menu, please email and we will do our best to accommodate you. There will be significant gaps between aid stations on the route. Please carry your water bottle belt throughout the run and refill your bottle at each aid station.

  In Memory: Kristy Gough

Kristy was the 2006 World's Toughest Half champion and Hawaii Ironman world age group champion in 2004. She was killed, along with her training partner Matt Peterson, in a cycling accident in the Bay Area on March 9th.

Kristy's longtime boyfriend Clas Bjorling (2x WT Half champ) of Sweden commented: "I've never seen her so enthusiastic as in the last couple of months. She was a really talented athlete, especially on the bike. She was so strong physically and mentally."
