Dec 2007 Newsletter
Sunday, May 18th, 2008
Dear Triathlete,
I cordially invite you to the 2008 Auburn Triathlon, featuring the sixth annual World's Toughest Half and the second annual Olympic Distance and Long Course Duathlon events, held concurrently. We are pleased to announce that the Auburn International Duathlon (3k-56mile-13.1mile) has been named the 2008 USAT National Long Course Duathlon Championship!
- Swim 1.5k&1.2mi: Folsom Lake offers temperate (70 degrees in 2007) and canyon protected calm water. An easy 7mi coast downhill from T2/Finish in Auburn. 3k run meanders along the lake shore on a mix of wide road and cozy, shaded single track.
- Bike 40k&56mi: The most scenic and challenging course in the sport! Breathtaking Sierra views, quiet, safe roads (only 4 signal intersections in 56 miles!), and a complete cycling test: flats, long gradual & short steep climbs and roller coaster fun. The 40k course goes east from the lake to the 16 mile mark near Placer Hills Rd and returns to the Overlook.
- Run 10k & 13.1 mi – 100% auto-free in Auburn State Park. 50/50 paved/dirt with stunning river canyon views. In 2008, we will run the 13.1 mile two-loop course in reverse order from years past - finish up the Dam Wall! Route features interesting single track, long gradual downhills and a cool, flat, shaded canal trail. 10k course simply follows loop one of the 13.1 course.
Participant Benefits are again spectacular – a $30 tech-fabric event T-shirt, lavish 5-deep age group awards, a fantastic lunch buffet with Jamba Juice smoothies and hot burritos, deluxe Specialized big mouth Auburn Triathlon water bottle, a commemorative finisher award and a grass-roots feel with a total focus on the athlete.
I look forward to seeing you in Auburn May 18th, 2008! Please call 530-888-9911, email brad@bradventures.com if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Brad Kearns
Auburn Triathlon Race Director

Running'sChOOL!
Auburn Triathlon Event Director Brad Kearns is pleased to is pleased to introduce his new non-profit organization devoted to kids fitness called Running School – an ideal charity partner for Auburn Triathlon participants. We offer an impressive package of perks and incentives in appreciation of your interest and support.
Running School delivers a cardiovascular fitness program to elementary and middle school students consisting of competitive races, fun-filled obstacle course events, inspirational assemblies and teacher curriculum for cardiovascular training. The program is offered free to our partner schools; our lean, kid-focused budget is funded entirely by corporate and individual donors. As a competitive triathlete, you serve as a powerful role model for our youth, who are trending distressingly towards inactivity and the serious health consequences. We appreciate any support you can consider for our simple, fun and highly effective programs. Please visit www.runningschool.org for extensive details.

She was killed, along with her training partner Matt Peterson, in a cycling accident in the Bay Area on March 9th. Kristy's longtime boyfriend Clas Bjorling (2x WT Half champ) of Sweden commented: "I've never seen her so enthusiastic as in the last couple of months. She was a really talented athlete, especially on the bike. She was so strong physically and mentally."
