World Champion Tim DeBoom Returns to Auburn

Tim is a two-time Hawaii Ironman world champion and the undisputed greatest American triathlete of the past decade. Formerly a top contender at Olympic distance, DeBoom turned his attention to the ironman distance and methodically worked his way up the ranks to become the dominant force in the world. Check out this chronological progression of Hawaii Ironman finishes up to 2002: 10th, 21st, 11th, 10th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 1st!

Known for his focused preparation, Tim races infrequently and is extremely difficult to beat whenever he steps on the starting line. His back to back victories in Hawaii in 2001 and 2002 established Tim as one of the all-time triathlon greats. In particular, his victory in the October 2001 Hawaii Ironman was the first international sporting event after the 9/11 tragedies. Over 30,000 spectators in Hawaii witness this emotional and uniting sporting effort, the first American victory in 6 years at the most pretigious race in triathlon.

Tim's fourth place finish at the 2007 Hawaii Ironman represented a remarkable comeback to the top echelon of the sport after numerous setbacks following his two victories, including dental surgery, a broken elbow, kidney stones, and injury-related DNF's. Just when the yoo haws were writing Tim off as a top contender, he delivered a brilliant 8:22 in Kona for fourth overall and first American.

Tim will be in Auburn race weekend as a special race guest and supporter of Running School kids fitness charity. Take the chance to meet one of these great legends of the sport and perhaps get him to sign one of his wife Nicole's SkirtSports original fitness skirt - it's revolutionizing fitness fashion - a great gift idea.

International Film Star Maxine Bahns To Race Auburn

Auburn Triathlon is pleased to welcome international film star and Triathlete Magazine swimsuit cover model Maxine Bahns to the '08 event. Max is perhaps best known for her breakout performances in the Edward Burns' Sundance winner, The Brothers McMullen, where she impressed critics in her first acting performance, and then her starring role in the sequel, She's The One.

Max has performed in dozens of television shows and feature films over the last decade as well as graced the covers of Runner's World, Triathlete, Fit, Health Magazine and British Maxim, and modeled for American Vogue, Italian Vogue, French Vogue, Glamour and FHM.

Max is a serious multisport competitor, with a 2001 Hawaii Ironman finish to her credit, and numerous half iron races and other endurance events. Feature Story about Max's triathlon endeavors. She will tackle the Auburn International event on the heels of participating in the grueling St. Croix half-iron race two weeks before Auburn. "I've wanted to come to Auburn for several years now, but schedule conflicts prevented me. I'm eager to test myself on this notorious course and enjoy some time in the beautiful Sierra foothills," commented Max.

Professional Adventure Racer Patrick Watson to Race Duathlon

Patrick, recently married to Max Bahns, will bring his incredible array of endurance talents to the Auburn International Duathlon starting line. Patrick races for Team Revo, a professional adventure racing team that has competed in some of the most remarkable endurance events on the planet, including the Tour Trans Alps (7 day, 900k stage race), 24 Hours of Adrenalin mountain bike and multiple podium spots in the Balance Bar Adventure Racing pro series. Patrick and Team Revo also finished the grueling 2006 Raid World Championships in Quebec (7-day, 630-mile non-stop event featuring numerous disciplines). On a recent weekend getaway to Vegas, Patrick rode his bike there from Palm Springs - a journey of nearly 300 miles across the Mojave Desert.

Gordy Holterman To Defend Title in Duathlon

The remarkable wonder Gordy Holterman shocked observers last year by crossing the line a full 15 minutes ahead of the next competitor, including the professional triathletes who were handicapped to race head-to-head on the final two events. Holterman, age 41, of Hillsborough, CA, balances a busy family life and career as a Wells Fargo executive around his multisport endeavors. His command performance in Auburn was just a warmup for his astonishing accomplishment of placing third overall - top American - at the October Duathlon Worlds in Richmond, VA.

Gordy will return to the starting line as a marked man in 2008, being the fastest amateur duathlete in the United States. Enjoy this feature story from USA Triathlon.org about Gordy's fascinating athletic background, impressive life-juggling act and refreshing competitive attitude.

  In Memory: Kristy Gough

Kristy was the 2006 World's Toughest Half champion and Hawaii Ironman world age group champion in 2004. She was killed, along with her training partner Matt Peterson, in a cycling accident in the Bay Area on March 9th.

Kristy's longtime boyfriend Clas Bjorling (2x WT Half champ) of Sweden commented: "I've never seen her so enthusiastic as in the last couple of months. She was a really talented athlete, especially on the bike. She was so strong physically and mentally."
