Don Weaver
1960-2007

Veteran triathlete Don Weaver of Newcastle, CA (near Auburn) was killed in a single-car auto accident on April 25, 2007 at the age of 46. Weaver was the 1995 national amateur sprint champion, six-time finisher of the Hawaii Ironman, and pre-eminent triathlete in the Sacramento area for many years. He competed all over the world at an elite level for over a decade, based in Oahu, San Diego, Fair Oaks, CA and finally Newcastle, CA, outside Sacramento.
Don worked as a dental hygienist in Roseville, CA for many years, was a master landscaper, father of two young children Jake and Callie, and husband of Angie. Don was known for his prodigious endurance training feats, fearless attitude and leading an incredibly passionate and intense life. He once stayed in the pool through three consecutive Master's swim classes, compiling over 11,000 meters in one evening. He liked to taunt top local cyclists by pressing the pace on group rides clad only in running shorts and a backwards-turned marathoner cap.
One of Don's favorite training days was a morning with a hilly three-hour mountain bike ride in the Sierra, then grabbing a quick lunch and driving up to Sugar Bowl resort near Tahoe for a half day of extreme skiing. "You'll discover what your quads can take on a day like that," Weaver recalled in his 1994 Triathlete magazine feature story.
